Internet Ad Revenues Pick Up in the Last Quarter of 2009

If you haven’t already heard the internet ad revenues have reached a record quarterly high of $6.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2009. The IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report was released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC).

Let’s look at the highlights of the report:

The largest chunk (47%) of overall interactive advertising spend comes from search and display-related advertising. Search revenues accounted for nearly $10.7 billion for 2009.

This figure was a slight improvement over last year. Revenues from display ads, rich media, and other display-related advertising saw a 4% increase from 2008 at nearly $8 billion.

Digital video which is a component of display-related advertising is on a growth spurt as it had almost 39% increase when compared to the previous year.

According to PwC, out of the five key U.S. ad-supported media (television, radio, newspapers, consumers magazines and Internet), the Internet‘s share of combined ad revenue rose steeply. It grew from 8% to 17%, and this percentage was based on the industry data collected from 2005 through 2009.

According to Randall Rothenberg, President and CEO of the IAB, more and more marketers are looking at digital media as a channel for their advertising and marketing efforts as consumers are also gravitating towards the same.
