The financial storm that raked the economy worldwide for a year is slowly receding, which was clear from the bullish third quarter on Wall Street.E-commerce stocks sailed ahead of the broader market with the Internet Retailer Online Retail Index gaining 26% in the third quarter.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and Standard & Poor’s 500 Index showed a gain of 15%.
When compared to 10% gains for the Dow and 16% for the S&P 500, the e-commerce index was ahead 73% for the year. American Greetings Corp. recorded 90% gains, followed by 1-800-Flowers.com and Omniture who advanced with gains of 79.7% and 70.7% respectively. Blue Nile and eBay stocks also performed well. The lowest percentage gain in stock price was recorded for DemandTec at just .03%. Other stocks that performed least well were for ATG, Systemax, Akamai and NutriSystem.
To sum it up, all 25 stocks in the Online Retail Index showed gains though the percentage did vary from stock to stock.
