Shopping Engine Traffic Review for August 2008

Augusts’ shopping engine traffic review show declining figures for almost all Sites as compared to the previous month. Though Bizrate is leading again this month in terms of both ranking and visits as compared to others, it has not been able to drive higher traffic than previous month (July month's shopping engine traffic review).

The ranking for Pricerunner have slashed down from 439 to 779. Pricerunner as compared to others have had a greater declining curve in August. The monthly visits have reduced by almost 38%.

Though other shopping engines did not drive higher traffic compared to previous month, Pricewatch has been able to attract more visitors than previous month. Its ranking has increased by 973. It has also got the highest number of monthly page visits. This could be attributed to the fact that a user has to go through a couple of pages specifying the desired features and specifications before landing on the right product page. For Example, if I am searching for camera with 5X optical Zoom, and I prefer Nikon. I need to choose Camera -> 5X Zoom -> then search 3 to 4 pages before I find Nikon with the features I am looking for.

Here Nikon is found on the 4th page of search results. Therefore to locate a product with just 2 criteria takes 6 pages beginning with home page. Imagine if a person has around 5-6 criteria, one wouldn’t know how many pages a user might have to visit before hitting the right product. I am not sure if this is the right way to increase page Visits?

* The above mentioned traffic data is gathered from compete.com.
*It might not provide the exact traffic volume and hence cannot conclude the popularity of the shopping engine.
