Traditionally, SEO is considered as the practice of building back links to websites by most people, even SEO analysts. Link building is a tough and painstaking activity (at least to me) which is effective only when it is done well, but it is not advisable to ignore or give less significance to on-page optimization that has always influenced search engines while deciding on the ranking of a website.
I looked through few online stores to check how good their websites are with regard to basic on-page optimization, which includes adjusting keyword occurrence in title tag, Meta description, Meta keywords, URL, Heading tag, Internal hyperlink, Body text (product description) and Product Image. But most of the online retail stores I visited had done very little by way of on-page optimization (as per my view).
On-page factors are directly associated with the content and structure of the site. I believe that on-page optimization is one of the trickiest tasks of SEO. Search engines change their algorithm every now and then and give importance to a variety of SEO factors (which no SEO organization can zero-in on with full accuracy), but what I believe is that they still give importance to basic on-page factors so they are worth optimizing.
Let’s have a detailed look at the following imaginary template to understand more about basic on-page optimization.
