"Online Shopping"- the way of the generation next


A global online survey conducted by Nielsen on online shopping habits reveals a 40% growth in online shopping market in the last 2 years. More than 85% of the world’s online users have started to purchase via internet. In the past one month, more than half of the net surfers have bought a product online. The survey highlighted:

1. Surprisingly, South Korea stands first in online shopping, where 99% of the citizens with internet access have purchased online. It is followed by UK (97%), Germany (97%), and Japan (97%). U.S. ranks eighth in position with 94% of internet users prefer online shopping.
2. Books are the most popular products sold online (41% purchased in the previous three months).Clothing/accessories/shoes (36%), Videos/DVDs/games (24%), airline tickets, (24%) and electronic equipments (23%) make the prominent hit list.
3. A 20-36% immense increase in consumers buying clothing/accessories/shoes online is witnessed in the past 2 years and books sale via online marked 7% increase.
4. Majority of people from India, Ireland and the UAE used internet for booking/reserving airline tickets in the last three months, which shows travel is the fourth most popular shopping category on the web.


Findings on selection of online shopping destination:
1. 60% of online shoppers show consumer loyalty a particular online shop based on its popularity.
2. One-third of the consumers chose their online shop using a search engine or surfing net. One out of four made purchase based on peer suggestion.


Popular payment methods for online shopping:
1. 60% of the global online consumers used credit cards as their mode of payment for their recent online purchase. Out of which 53% shoppers used Visa card.
2. One out of four online consumers used PayPal services.
3. Visa Card was the preferred credit card of more than half (53%) of the consumers.
4. People from UK (59%) and US (40%) used debit cards for their online shopping.
5. Credit cards are the most popular mode of payment by the Latin Americans and Asians.

Good list of stats you have there, showing how online shopping is taking over. You have to think that eventually everything will be purchased in some electronic way, ultimately spelling the end for high street retailers.

It's already evident that electronic software will become only downloads instead of a physical purchase. Music, games, films, applications - it will all be purchased online.

Moreover the survey also highlights the potential market for enterprises serving b2b companies.Many factors plays an important role to make the online purchasing successful in ecommerce platform. To start with, a good business plan, identify targeted market & selection of products to sell,adopting effeting online marketing channel followed by website with good design, appealing merchandise content,competitive pricing offers,customer privacy,fast checkout process & secure payment gateway. anything i left out here?
