The result of a study conducted by NPD group on US consumers reveals that back to school shopping is experiencing a late start this year (2007).
According to this study,
- Around 76% of respondents are planning to spend up to $ 500, which is 5% less than previous year (2006).
- 46% of consumers are planning to buy electronics and it is 5% above when compared to previous year.
- Out of overall consumers, who plans to shop in the “back to school season”, 18 % i.e. one-fifth have started their shopping before 1st of August. Last year, this figure was 30% i.e. one-third of the total population.
- Consumers opt for “alternate purchases” like Apparels & footwear rather than “must have” or “Absolute necessity” items.
- Value: 80%
- Required by School: 58%
- Replacement: 36%
