Apparel Outshines Computers and Electronics

A recent 10th annual shop.org study conducted jointly with Forrester Research outlined some key findings related to the US online sales industry. Around 170 online retailers dealing in different categories actively participated in this study.

Some of the key findings of the report:

For the first time in the history of the US online retail industry, online sales of apparel and accessories have surpassed tech products like computers and electronics.

Online apparel, accessories, and footwear sales reached $18.3 billion in 2006 and is expected to cross $22.1 billion in 2007.

In 2007, 10% of overall clothing sales were purchased online. US customers spent more money on apparel than computers.

Online shoppers now have more options, which has helped them become comfortable with finding and buying apparel online rather than in a physical store.

Online apparel retailers have started integrating new technology like rich imaging and flexible shopping policies, such as free shipping, returns and exchanges.
